I don't get enough sleep because I'm a grad student in oceanography and read about plankton during the wee hours of the morning. A good day for me would be to snorkel and look at bizarre fish, followed by an evening in NYC sitting on a terrace talking about travel or international relations or ecology with a bunch of kooky smart people. I think of Manhattan skyscrapers as part of nature in their own way just like giant ant hills. Even though I was born and raised in NYC I'm still in awe of tall buildings. I feel pretty lucky to be doing what I love. I just wish I had more time to read about other interests like politics, design, psychology, lakes, fiction, etc. If I couldn't be doing what I'm doing now I think I'd be designing things.
My Ideal Person:
I like people who are crazy-smart. Some backbone would be great. Chemistry is essential. Enthusiasm for aquariums would be a plus.
The last great book I read Collapse by Jared Diamond
If I could be anywhere right now Nepal or some medieval village
Five items I can't live without computer, coffee, brain, plane tickets, perspective
In my bedroom one will find... a giant deer mural, tons of books, gilded mirror, cacti
