I am passionate about ideas, insatiably curious, not easily offended, and rarely bored. I have many friends, all over the world, because once you earn my trust you’re stuck with my loyalty. I've milked a goat, meditated for 30 minutes (you try it, its hard!), eaten alligator in Venezuela, slept in a teepee, danced in a field of sunflowers, made it through all 15 hours of Fassbinder's Berlin Alexanderplatz, had my picture in a newspaper, and been through a white water rapid without the raft (accidentally, thinking "feet first, feet first" the whole time. i mean, i didn't say i was brave did i?) I'll likely beat you at a game of pool. I've been fortunate to show my photographs, I obsess about art, and am always creating something -- mostly jewelry, sometimes paintings, often dinner. I'm always scheming up some project or other, and I actually manifest some of them. I can occasionally finish the sunday Times' crossword. I say "good morning" to people because I believe it's good to be neighborly. Or is it cause I want to keep people on their toes, or that I've had too much coffee. I like people until they give me reason not to. (or they have bad shoes) And finally, I'm pretty sure that cynicism is over-rated.
My Ideal Person:
I'd like to meet an intelligent, curious, light-hearted guy, who can laugh about, argue over and discuss the world, because that's what matters when our bodies give out.
This city hardens all our edges, so if you make an effort to be kind, that would be nice. Someone who has a philosophical bent, a spiritual curiosty, and a sense of humor. actually a sense of humor is essential. you can even make fun of me. i'm pretty thick-skinned. (and lived in europe where taking the piss is an art-form)
What would be great, but not essential, is if you liked hiking and camping and getting dirty a bit. If you liked dogs and cats that would be super. Do you have a bit of a boogie in your feet? You don't have to dance well, just not be so self-conscious that you won't dance.
Basically we're all looking for that thing. That thing that you can't say what it is. A smell? An energy? You just know when it's there.
oh, one last thing...I am really not looking for an online penpal. Let's meet! Life is an adventure if you make it one.
The last great book I read I recently finished the Walter Isaacson biography of Einstein. A shockingly good read. My goodness, I just couldn't believe he died in the end. Silly I know, but I'd grown fond of the ol' chap.
Some of my favorites:
Good Night Moon ** Turning the Mind into an Ally by Sakyon Mipham ** Wanderlust by Rebecca Solnit ** The Wind up Bird Chronicle by Murakami ** My Year of Magical Thinking by Didion ** the half-read but destined to be finished, Landscape and Memory by Simon Schama.
My most humbling moment That would have to be when I was chased by an NYC police helicopter for starting a bonfire under the Brooklyn Bridge. It wasn't that big.....really. As I ran from the search beam, I thought, "Toto, I guess we're not in California anymore."
On a more sublime note, mother nature humbles me when she quiets the night with snow, grumbles with thunder and shines like the stars.
Favorite on-screen sex scene with so much fine porn, how is one supposed to choose?
If I could be anywhere right now Walking. over a bridge, down a street, up a hill. Just walking.
Flying with the carrier pidgeons in magical circles at sunrise and sunset over brooklyn.
Climbing mount kilimanjaro (I'd like to see the snow before it's gone)
Swimming in just about any body of water.
Sitting by a fire with a hot buttered rum in hand, muscles sore, at the end of a day skiing, preferably in Heavenly Valley
Five items I can't live without I just need my coffee in the morning and I'm good to go. okay if it were an emergency--I guess i'd like to take my photo albums and cat. On a desert island i'd be pretty bummed with out music. hell, then there's my camera and passport, this is getting complicated. Oh yeah, one more thing, it would really suck to lose my cell phone with everyone's phone numbers. Thinking of which, i better copy those down....
Fill in the blank: _____ is sexy; _____ is sexier. kissing is sexy; laughing is sexier.
In my bedroom one will find... books, photographs, a workbench, 600 vinyl records (yes, i do listen to these still. In fact right now), a new paint job, and my cat (who thinks he's a dog) Mao
