Profile for jenruss724
I am many things, as we all are, but here's the skinny: quirky, irreverent, quick-witted, intelligent, mildly sarcastic, friend to animals, teacher of children with special needs (yes, i work with the short bus crew- and i love 'em). Former actress, game show contestant, texan (never really stop being a texan, though), new york city teaching fellows survivor, brooklyn lovin', coffee drinkin', prospect park jogging, small business owner.

I've done a lot of traveling, lived overseas, toured the US back in my acting days. I really love being outdoors, taking pointless road trips, seeing all kinds of movies, and checking out new restaurants, interesting music and improv/comedy shows. I'm on a regular check out/return cycle at the brooklyn public library- love the books y'all.

I've lived in nyc long enough that i'm not impressed with places that are "scenes" anymore- no velvet rope, vip lounges, $20 diet cokes- not into it at all. That being said, I love bars and lounges with great atmosphere and music- places where people can have real conversations. I like authentic places and authentic people who don't take themselves to seriously.

My Ideal Person:
I've always gotten along with lots of different types of people. I don't have a traditional "type"- more into how I feel when I'm with someone- that undefinable chemistry thing. I'm into grown-ups who are young at heart, and not afraid to laugh at themselves or at me. In addition, I respect people who are open-minded, direct, generous, liberal, ethical, intelligent, witty, and driven to make their lives and the lives of those around them better. Must love animals and respect children. Hopefully you like what you do, but you don't live to work. If you love to travel, eat and cook good food, see off-broadway plays, read in the park, play air hockey, board games and bowl, we just might hit it off.I'm also a huge fan of lounging- there's so much to do in this city, but sometimes the best times are simply spent lazing in the park or on the couch with a good book.

  • The last great book I read
What is the What? by Dave Eggers and A Widow for One Year by
John Irving. Still read a lot of special education texbooks
to help with my work. I'm also a huge fan of Nick Hornby, David Sedaris, Augusten
Burroughs, Tom Robbins, and Margaret Atwood.
  • My most humbling moment
Getting accepted to the NYC Teaching Fellows and beginning
to teach after less than a month of training. Those first
months were so horrible that one day, one of my fourth grade
students just looked at me, shook her head and said, "You
    need help." She was right.
  • The celebrity I resemble the most
Ugh. I've gotten hope davis, mira sorvino, carrie
fisher and peri gilpin from "frasier." You
    can be the judge.
  • The best or worst lie I've ever told
While touring with a very low paying theatre company, I
lied about being a guest at the hotel next to ours so that
I could eat the free continental breakfast. Desperate
    times- desperate measures.
  • If I could be anywhere right now
Lounging with a book, and a dude, by a fire somewhere in the
mountains or on the beach. OR at Kerbey Lane Cafe in Austin.
They have the best pancakes in the world.
  • Five items I can't live without
good coffee, good chocolate, dr. bronner's lavender
    soap, curiosity, laughter
  • Fill in the blank: _____ is sexy; _____ is sexier.
29 is sexy ;39 is sexier.
  • In my bedroom one will find...
An awesome, adult sized bed, books, candles, pictures
of family and friends, original art work created by friends,
my home office (unfortunately), great natural light.
