I've been a painter since I was in my teens and most of my life revolves around the arts. I'm intellectually curious about most things and an avid reader of art, literature and philosophy. My political viewpoint is liberal and I like reading about and discussing world events- although I have a weakness for champagne, good food and most things sensual. I am introspective, but social and outgoing. Good friends and engaging work are important, but I value intimacy and mutual understanding. I tend to be open, trusting, and comfortable revealing myself. I avoid people who are negative and emotionally draining. Nothing is more attractive in a man than intelligence. Stimulating conversation is the best foreplay. I don’t separate the physical from the spiritual, so a deep physical connection is as central to me as any other aspect of a relationship.
My Ideal Person:
I am looking for someone who is intelligent, articulate, and capable of intimacy; someone who is self-aware, communicative and understanding. I've had the pleasure of a long committed relationship and know how satisfying that can be. Literary aficionados, skiers, divers, news junkies and liberals in particular are welcome.
The last great book I read "Against the Day" by Thomas Pynchon - an 1100 page tome set between 1893 and 1916 when technological discoveries like electricity and radio waves were changing the cultural landscape, scientists were pondering the existence of ghosts and anarchists around the world were defying capitalist oppressors.
"Europe Central" by William Vollman - about the Russian/German conflict during WWII relayed through the voices of prominent historical characters of the time, Kathe Kollowitz, Demetri Shostakovich, Stalin and his wife.
Almost anything by Cormac McCarthy especially "Blood Meridian"
My most humbling moment getting divorced
The best or worst lie I've ever told My mother never knew that I was divorced
If I could be anywhere right now Being right here in Santa Monica is great, but so is communing with nature in Big Sur or skiing in Utah. London's wonderful. I recently spent 5 weeks in Paris and Italy and can't wait to return.
Five items I can't live without art, books, music, skis and my espresso machine
Fill in the blank: _____ is sexy; _____ is sexier. eye contact is sexy; the first kiss is sexier
In my bedroom one will find... An iron bed and vanity from the 17th century, plants, a stuffed chair, a wall of books, my paintings and a bench stacked with art magazines, The New York Review of Books, Bookforum and The New Yorker
